I have a real soft spot for Sandshrew (and, even more so, Sandslash). I had a Sandslash on my team the first time I played Pokémon Blue, and again the first time I played FireRed. So, of course I'm glad that Zizzy caught one. However, Zizzy already has a very strong ground-type Pokémon in Rudy. So we likely won't see Windy in battles too much, at least as long as Rudy remains with us.
Also, yes, this is the end of the comic, since Zizzy has become lost in the sandstorm and will soon be buried in sand. Her love of fossils will be fulfilled as she now has the opportunity to become one.
