Icebergs

In my ongoing mission to draw specific types of trees, this page has some oak trees. There's also some pine trees, but those don't really count since they're sort of my "default" tree.

I've been meaning to show some more behind-the-scenes stuff, so here are the sketch layers from today's page. This is pretty typical of my process. I start sketching in orange, then switch to green if I need a more detailed sketch on top (since it stands out well on orange). Occasionally I need a third layer in blue or purple, but that's about as far as I go. I always feel best when I can do a panel with no sketch at all, since I feel like I'm saving time. But it's hard to get the proportions right that way.

For comparison, here are the sketch layers from the previous page. You can see it was a bit more demanding. Some parts look hard to understand, but that's because normally I wouldn't have all three sketch layers turned on at once.
